In a bid to address the various issues of water and sanitation, the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Hon. Senzo Mchunu, met with Nelson Mandela Bay, Sarah Baartman District and its local municipalities and Buffalo City Municipality. The purpose of the meeting is to assess the state of water and sanitation in these three areas. This engagement is part of the ongoing commitment from the Minister to improve the quality of water and sanitation services rendered at a local government level.
In the meeting the seven local municipalities in the Sarah Baartman District presented their plans and challenges related to water and sanitation. All municipalities presented various projects which are underway currently to address water provision and sanitation. The Minister of Water and Sanitation responded to these presentations and indicated that a follow-up session will be held to outline how the Department of Water and Sanitation will assist the local municipalities regarding the requests they presented today.
An issue that was raised by all municipalities, is the issue of vandalism of infrastructure. We urge community members to report criminal activities as damage to government infrastructure affects everyone
