Provincial Women's Day Celebrated in Misgund

 August The Provincial Women's Day celebrations were held in Misgund on 09 August 2024. Misgund is a small and rural town in Koukamma Municipality, one of the seven local municipalities within Sarah Baartman District. The Women's Day program was kicked off with services on wheels by various government departments. Thereafter Premier of the Eastern Cape, Hon. Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane and Eastern Cape MECs handed over equipment such as sewing machines and gardening tools to farmers and seamstresses. Six female farmers including a female farmer from Makhanda received a tractor to increase their productivity on their farms. Scholars from local schools in Sarah Baartman District also received 100 bicycles as part of the Department of Transport's scholar transport assistance for learners who reside less than 5km from their school. These are only a few of the support extended to the community of the Eastern Cape today.

 
Premier Mabuyane's  delivered an inspiring address on the day, which highlighted the unwavering commitment to advancing the socio-economic empowerment of all women—across rural areas, the LGBTQIA+ community, those with disabilities, and beyond.
