Sarah Baartman District Municipality hands over EHS vehicles and tools worth over R1 million

In an effort to improve local service delivery, the Sarah Baartman District Municipality recently handed over three brand-new Emergency, Health and Safety vehicles to three local municipalities within the district at a ceremony held at its offices in Port Elizabeth. Besides the vehicles, the three municipalities - the Kouga, Blue Crane Route and Sundays River Valley, also received equipment and other tools-of-the-trade, which included cameras, oil testers and sound level meters, worth just over R1 million. Speaking at the hand over, Sarah Baartman District Municipality Mayoral Committee Member, Cllr Zamuxolo Peter, said that through the hand over, the District Municipality was showing its commitment to assisting the local municipalities in order to boost service delivery in the interest of local residents. Also speaking at the hand over, Sarah Baartman District Municipality Executive Mayor, Khunjuzwa Eunice Kekana, said that the District Municipality has gone into a service level agreement with the local municipalities, concerning the provision of Environmental, Health and Safety services. “Environmental practitioners have an important role to play in society, being responsible for the lives of others in many instances. This handover goes a long way towards making sure that the municipalities have the necessary tools of trade handy in order to carry out this important function,” said Mayor Kekana. She also appealed to the municipalities to create awareness about environmental issues in their areas. The Sarah Baartman District Municipality has to date also supported its municipalities with millions of Rands worth of vehicles and equipment for fire control.
